David Massey - Director of Studies

I am from Australia. This year will be my fourth year in Bielsko-Biała. I have two main responsiblities – Director of Studies and Exam Coordinator. Initially I was trained as a teacher but after being a school principal for a number of years I decided to try something different and entered the business world of restaurants. Owning and being a chef in a restaurant for 9 years is very tiring so I took my experience and ran a management company setting up restaurants and night clubs for other people.

Finally I found I missed teaching and returned after completing a dip.Tefl to the field I enjoy most - teaching!

Sophie Edgar - Assistant Director of Studies

I'm from Newcastle and I've worked in Turkey and the UK as an EFL teacher and have 7 years teaching experience.  I love sports - swimming, running, yoga and exercise classes. I'd also like to try ski-ing whilst I'm here.

I've decided to come to Poland because I like visiting new places and am keen to see places around Bielsko-Biala. Friends have recommended Poland to me and all the Polish students I've taught have been great, so I'm really looking forward to starting at Bielsko-Biala.

Tom Ferguson - Young Learner Coordinator

I'm from a small village in the south west of Scotland, I've been teaching for over 5 years, in places such as Shanghai, Dalian in the far north of China and in Taiwan.  I have had more jobs than I care to remember in the past, everything from I.T. to picking bananas, before discovering the joys of being a teacher.  I enjoy most sports, especially football and rugby, I enjoy getting out into the countryside, and am a keen diver when I get the chance.

I'm moving to Poland as I want to get back to living a more active, healthy life, which I haven't been able to do in the big cities of Asia, and because I have heard so many good things about the people there.

Russell Preston - Resident Branch School Teacher Żywiec

My name is Russell Preston and I come from Brisbane, Australia. I have lived in beautiful Poland for five years and love the people and atmosphere of the country. Currently I live in Zywiec and one of my favourite past times is to go hiking in the mountains. I also love to play cricket and rugby so if anyone wants to learn more about these fantastic sports I'm your man!

I also like to travel and have been lucky enough to see a lot of Poland and Europe. So when you see me around IH stop and say G'Day (hello in Australian slang)!

Tim Young - Teacher

I'm 29 and from London.  I did my Celta at IH Budapest in September 2006 and my first job was teaching as a volunteer in rural Sri Lanka.  After that I returned to Budapest and worked for IH and the British Council.

I want to live and work in Poland because I am sick of the heat!  Also, because I have always enjoyed being in central Europe and have had good times with the Polish people I've met.  I am very interested in music, I play guitar, drums and I'm a DJ.

William Early - Teacher

I've been teaching English for around 6 years, in Ecuador, Spain, Portugal and Holland. In my spare time I paint a lot, so occasionally grubby fingernails are not because of bad personal hygiene! My second language is Spanish and I know some French and Portuguese, too.

I am planning to study for the Cambridge DELTA next summer and that is part of the reason I'm going to Poland.   Apart from work and painting in my spare time I'm planning to get back into skiing (and back into shape!)

Maria Rozmanic - Teacher

I started teaching without any previous thoughts about it. After spending a year in the USA I was asked to teach English to unemployed women for a non-governmental organization back home in Serbia. I enjoyed it and have been teaching ever since. I did my teacher training course, taught at a primary school and a private school in Serbia and started my career with the IH organization in January this year after completing my Celta in 2004.
Now I am looking forward to exploring Bielsko Biala and learning as much as possible about life there. When not working I like taking long walks, riding my bicycle, reading and having fun with friends.

Chris Walker

I'm from a small town in the middle of England, called Stamford. I studied for my teaching certificate in Krakow, and then spent the next year there teaching with International House.
I really enjoyed living in Poland and after a couple of months as a student in Spain, I recently decided to come back to Eastern Europe for a second look.
My main hobbies are travelling and reading which seem to go well together. I've been to 28 countries so far, though most of those are in Europe. My target is to see 50 by the time I'm 50 years old.
This year I want to read more books by Polish authors. My only experience so far has been Stanislaw Lem who has become one of my favourite authors.
