“First Steps” kindergarten functions on the basis of a traditional kindergarten programme as well as the unique programme called “We teach English in English”. The focus of the kindergarten is learning through play and utilizing the child’s natural spontaneity. Through getting to know the world, learning how to think, learning to be independent and how to cooperate with others, children have contact with natural, everyday English. Therefore, they acquire the language as a natural part of the world they know rather than as a separate entity. Thanks to everyday contact with English-speaking teachers during games, educational play and in ordinary everyday situations, the process of learning takes place in a smooth, natural, non-stressful manner, allowing children to quickly acquire good pronunciation, accent, rhythm and intonation. At some point children just start speaking English spontaneously. It will thus be significantly easier for them to absorb more complex grammar structures in the future and learning other languages will become simpler.


Teachers take into consideration the children’s perceptive abilities and they adjust the rhythm of the class to the level of the young pupils’ concentration. As well, teachers carefully choose materials and themes of the lessons, according to the children’s age and level of English.
