Professionals, methodologists, examiners, authors of books and articles. "Being English is not enough” The Times Educational Supplement, July 8, 1996 John Haycraft. The IH concept established a new trend in a language teaching. We put enormous emphasis not only on ensuring a high level of competence through thorough training and methodological preparation but also on enthusiasm and a friendly attitude towards students. There is no space for random people among IH teachers. - All our teachers hold a Cambridge CELTA teaching certificate (Certificate in Teaching English as A Foreign Language). In addition, some of our teachers hold higher qualifications such as the Cambridge DELTA teaching certificate (Diploma in English Language Teaching). For most teachers English is their mother tongue, but for all teachers irrespective of their first language, professionalism and a clear focus on that for which they have been trained is key to their effectiveness. IH teachers specialise in teaching foreigners. This demands very special skills. It’s not enough to be English or American to be able to be able to effectively teach English and undertake this challenge in a responsible manner. For this, one must be a teacher of English as a foreign language. Many of our teachers are examiners for the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate and take part in conducting Cambridge FCE, CAE, CPE and BEC exams. IH teachers are authors of preparatory course books for Cambridge exams. Some of most widely know exam preparatory course books were written by IH teachers (Think First Certificate and Think Ahead to FC - J. Naunton, FC Gold and Advanced Gold - Richard Acklam and Sally Burgess and others). Every one of our teachers constantly makes use of valuable IH expertise, passed on to successive generations of IH teachers through our training and constant professional support unique to the IH community worldwide. IH teachers are constantly innovating new approaches and techniques, which is why the IH method is alive and always developing. The way in which the teacher manages each and every lesson is the result of careful preparation. IH Teachers work in school from the morning, so that by the afternoon they can guarantee you a perfectly planned and carefully thought out lesson. Teachers’ work and preparation is supervised by a diploma qualified methodologist whose role is to support the teacher and to maintain standards. There is a parallel here with a film director – remaining invisible in the final product, but playing a key role in achieving the final result. A system of weekly input sessions, workshops, seminars, observations and individual help with lesson preparation gives every teacher the essential professional support and ensures a high level of performance whilst at the same time facilitating further development in their role as teachers. IH teachers and trainers count as being among the best of the best. Among our teachers and trainers are authors of many well known classic English language teaching publications, including best-sellers such as ‘Cutting Edge’, ‘Choice’, ‘Headway’, ‘English Language Teaching’ and many others. These authors co-operate with a number of leading publishing houses including Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press and Pearson Longman.
